Dr. Joshua Besas, PharmD

Dr. Besas earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University, where his advanced practice rotations spanned transplant pharmacotherapy, ambulatory family medicine, internal medicine and critical care, oncology, and both hospital and community pharmacy settings. Before pursuing his PharmD, he spent five years as a pharmacy technician at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center, assisting pharmacists with medication preparation, IV compounding in the clean room, and inventory management while coordinating closely with nursing and medical staff.

Dr. Besas' connection to CareFirst Specialty Pharmacy dates back to his student rotations, where he completed a Community Compounding APPE under Sundeep Thakrar, RPh, and contributed medical writing on the efficacy and safety of compounded medications for refractory disease states. That hands-on experience with sterile and non-sterile compounding shaped his focus on personalized, patient-specific formulations.

Outside the pharmacy, Dr. Besas has a strong record of interdisciplinary collaboration and service, including work with the Rutgers Newark Volunteer Clinic's InterPEN program and leadership roles within Rutgers' campus community organizations.
